Student Information:
The CAF is for students in all majors and at all stages—just getting started, exploring options, actively looking for a job or internship. MSU’s Career Services Network hosts this event designed to give students to get an inside look at paths available with more creative-minded employers.
The 2009 CAF will kick off with a 90-minute session composed of 15 short, interactive presentations featuring a wide range of diverse professionals, organizations and fields. Immediately following, students and professionals can chat, exchange information and build or strengthen relationships while enjoying refreshments during the Student & Professional Mixer.
What you need to do to pre-register to attend:
1) Have a resume ready and uploaded in MySpartanCareer.com. (Don’t panic! Keep reading for info on getting help with your resume and why you need to have one.)
2) Log-in to MySpartanCareer.com and click on the Creative Arts Forum-Professionals event quick link/shortcut from your MySpartanCareer.com home page.
3) Click GO by the RSVP message!
If you have any questions contact the Career Events Office at (517) 884-1310 or email Carol Stier, Events Manager, at stierc@msu.edu.
What is MySpartanCareer.com?
MySpartanCareer.com is MSU’s on-line job board and career information system. It is exclusively for MSU students and alumni, and is the place where you can find job and internship postings, workshop information, and employer presentation/information sessions. You can also check out organizations attending and positions being recruited for at career fairs, and access career-related research resources–if we know about it this is the place we put the information.
Why do I need a resume to RSVP for this event?
MySpartanCareer.com requires that you have a resume uploaded into the system to apply for open jobs and to RSVP for events. In addition, many of the professionals participating in the Creative Arts Forum have shown an interest in receiving resumes from students who attend this event. If you do NOT want us to include your resume that is not a problem; just e-mail Carol Stier, Events Manager, at stierc@msu.edu and let her know. You’ll still need to upload it when you RSVP, but we’ll remove it from the resume book before it goes to employers.
**IMPORTANT** You must attend the event to have your resume included in the event resume book, so make sure you get your student ID scanned or sign-in when you arrive at the event.
Where can I get help with my resume?
Check out the resume section in the Career Passport (you can also pick up copies at career centers and locations around campus) or here on our website. Career Services also has a series of on-going workshops that cover resumes, networking, interviewing, and internships. These are offered weekly and they are open to ALL students–resume workshops are offered TWICE a week! Access the Steps to Success Workshop List here. You can also make an appointment with a career advisor by clicking on the Advising “Quick Link” on the left.
This really doesn’t sound like a normal career fair. How do I prepare for this?
When you RSVP, you’ll get a confirmation e-mail to let you know it went through. That e-mail will include a link to an info sheet which you can also access here: Making the Most of Your CAF Experience. For more tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your day and get your questions answered, attend our prep workshop Tuesday, November 3 @ 5:30 p.m. The Creative Arts Forum is a place for networking and information sharing, but that doesn’t mean that connections you make there can’t lead to a job or internship! This session will help you learn how to connect with employer representatives effectively. Space is limited—please RSVP through MySpartanCareer. [Click on Events and then Workshops.]
We look forward to seeing you there!
