Finding People to Interview or Shadow

You have an advantage as a student in finding people to talk to about their jobs; people are usually very willing to talk to students. The easiest way to begin this process is to start with someone you, a friend, a relative, or professor knows. Below are other places to find contacts for interviews:

  • Career search tools:  Handshake allows you to follow and connect with employers using the site.

  • Spartan LINKS: Alumni who join Spartan LINKS want to share their stories and expertise with students. Use your Spartan connection to meet people who want to help you!
  • Social Networks: Be sure to join LinkedIn. It's a great way to connect with MSU alumni and find people in positions you'd be interested in.

  • Career Fairs: Career fairs can be very helpful to students who aren’t necessarily looking for jobs. Go to a career event to make contacts for follow-up after the fair.

  • The Career Exposure Series can help you connect with alumni and employers on campus. Then take it a step further with an informational interview or job shadow!
