Running Start: Vocal and Hearing Health for the Vocal Performer and Choral Educator

Part of career success means caring well for our instruments! Join Dr. Jeff Searl, Professor in MSU’s Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders, to discuss factors that can cause problems for the student vocal performers’ vocal and hearing health. Vocal fold tissue changes that can negatively impact the voice, and ways to take care of the voice, will also be discussed. Dr. Searl teaches graduate coursework regarding voice disorders and dysphagia (swallowing disorders) and conducts research focused on voice and speech disorders caused by behavioral, structural, and neurological conditions. As a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, he has 25+ years of experience working with individuals who have laryngeal pathologies and disorders.
