Gaining beekeeping and research experience at MSU Beelab.

Pay rate: $13 to $15 depending on beekeeping experience.

Duties will include field work (beekeeping) and laboratory work (research on honey bee behavior or physiology). If you have no prior experience with bees, basic beekeeping skills (how to inspect bees, providing food, moving bees, disease inspection, mite identification) will be taught via field experience. Lab work include general lab mountainous, manipulation of Varroa mites and testing a new chemical for possible varroa control, possibly also RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis and real time PCR.

Experience with honey bees a plus. No known allergies to insect stings.

Preferred: Major in entomology or any other life sciences related field. Experience with honey bees a plus.

Required: 1). not afraid of stinging insects. 2). Able to lift 50 lbs, 3). Have a driver’s license and 4). Able to work 30-40 hours per week during the summer.
