A position for an Undergraduate Learning Assistant is available in the Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience (NEU402) course within the Department of Physiology at Michigan State University.
Position Summary
The primary duties of the Undergraduate Learning Assistant will include:
- Assisting in reading and verifying homework assignments from 50+ students
- Using rubrics to assist with grading
- Test and review quizzes and exams for the course
- Meeting with Dr. Vanacker on a weekly basis
- Hold weekly office hours for NEU402 students
- Proctor exams (3x per semester)
Individuals may also have the opportunity to participate in the creation of course materials and test questions. The Undergraduate Learning Assistant is not required to attend Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience (NEU402) lectures or to be present on the MSU campus, as the duties are mostly conducted remotely, except during the three in-person exams to help Dr. Vanacker proctor. Potential ULAs who have class scheduled during exams may not be retained for this position.
Unit-Specific Education and Experience
Qualified applicants should be currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology, Neuroscience or a related life science area. They should be able to demonstrate the ability to work in collaboration with other Professor and Professional Aids as well as independently. Good communication skills, familiarity with the D2L platform, experience with academic research tools (such as PubMed and Google Scholar), and experience reading scientific literature will be considered for the position.
