The MSU Libraries Hollander MakeCentral Makerspace is looking for a highly self-motivated and detail-oriented student assistant starting in the summer semester of 2024. The Makerspace provides a wide variety of services to students, faculty/staff, and the general public. Our equipment includes 3D printers, laser cutting, CNC routing, sewing machines and so much more!
Prior experience is not required, after a period of training, employees are expected to:
- Handle general inquiries, monitor email and phone
- Check in patrons to self service stations and assist as needed
- Assist patrons who need to check out lending technology
- Review submitted files and correspond with patron to resolve any issues
- Operate 3D printers and monitor prints
- Light maintenance and repair of 3D printers
- General upkeep of the space and equipment
Required physical activity: bending and lifting up to 25 lbs, typing/viewing a computer 30-50% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position is primarily about helping others to make sure they feel welcome, helped, and self-proficient when using our technologies. The ability to communicate professionally to a diverse audience through both written and verbal means is essential. Due to the range of equipment and software, candidates must be motivated to learn a lot of technical material through concise training sessions.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of 3D modeling or 2D vector design.

Pay rate and hours:
Starting pay rate: $13.49/hr, with opportunity for advancement in subsequent semesters.
10-15 hours/week in the fall
Applicants should be in their undergraduate program. Preference is given to those who have at least two years remaining before graduation. The Makerspace is typically open 10am-9pm Monday-Friday with shortened hours over the weekend and summers.
