Summary
The Transfer Student Coordinator will be responsible for the TSSC social media presence, and as applicable, the recording, production and editing, and publication of the monthly Spartan Transfer Hub podcast. The Transfer Student Coordinator will also assist in facilitating orientation programming and events that foster community building and sense of belonging for MSU transfer students. The Transfer Student Coordinator position is funded by Michigan State University’s MiLEAP Sixty by 30 grant. The Transfer Student Coordinator will begin employment in October 2026 with continued employment throughout the completion of the MiLEAP grant ending July 31, 2027.
About the Transfer Student Success Center
Housed in the Transitions and Transfer Student Success unit within the Office of Undergraduate Education at Michigan State University, the mission of the Transfer Student Success Center (TSSC) is to promote institutional resources and facilitate inclusive programming to support the academic and social engagement needs of transfer students by collaborating with internal and external campus partners of student success initiatives. TSSC supports over 4,500 transfer students enrolled at MSU annually.
Qualifications
Experience with posting on social media platforms such as Instagram.
Able to create graphics and promotional materials using tools such as Canva or other graphic design platforms.
Proven experience in podcast creation, audio production, or other content creation.
Experience with storytelling, scriptwriting and other content creation.
Familiarity with audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition).
Familiarity with podcast distribution platforms (e.g., Riverside FM, Apple Podcasts, Spotify).
Able to work independently and self-start and as part of a team.
Adaptable and able to work as part of a diverse team to accomplish group goals.
Able to communicate effectively online, over the phone, and in person, and maintain accurate records with good interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with digital accessibility best practices
Appreciates diversity and sensitivity toward various ideas and values.
Able to assume leadership roles and complete all assigned tasks.
Awareness of campus resources and be a positive representative for MSU and adhere to and enforce the rules and regulations of Michigan State University.
Undergraduate student at MSU for Fall Semester 2026, and Spring Semester 2027 with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
International students in F-1 or J-1 status must be enrolled full-time (or approved for Reduced Course Load by OISS) for fall semester 2026 and spring semester 2027 as per immigration regulation enrollment requirements. Available for 10-20 hours per week during the 2026-27 academic year
Available for 20 hours per week from May to July 31, 2027
Applicants with the following experience(s) are desired but not required:
Experience posting and sharing content on platforms such as Involve@State.
Experience with program planning small- and large-scale events with tasks associated with event logistics, registration, and post surveys
Assessment involving transfer student experience focus groups and surveys
General Responsibilities/ Requirements
General Transfer Student Success Center Duties
Be a team player with high enthusiasm and commitment to the position; represent Transfer Student Success Center values.
Adhere to the rules, policies, and procedures of Michigan State University; respect the confidentiality of all university, department, and student documents and information.
Attend weekly meetings with TSSC professional staff.
Transfer Student Success Center Student Coordinators will be expected to assist with day-to-day office tasks and planning throughout the academic year and on an as-needed basis during the summer:
Support office assistants when needed.
Assist the TSSC and NSO staff in reviewing/revising the program, i.e., help coordinate and conduct Focus Groups, attend planning meetings, etc.
Assume other duties as assigned by the TSSC leadership team.
Communications
Lead TSSC marketing, branding, and communications to students and their supporters which includes:
Creating a strategic communication plan.
Creating images and text to post on the TSSC/NSO Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Posting regularly to TSSC social media accounts
Posting regularly to TSSC Involve@State
Drafting, editing, and sending TSSC emails.
Supporting creation of content for the TSSC monthly newsletter.
Podcast Production
Lead developing TSSC academic year Podcasting content, including episodes and resources relevant to the 4,000+ transfer student population at MSU.
Plan and implement podcast programming with partner offices who represent campus offerings for High Impact Practices, etc.
Assist with planning and implementation programming offered off-site, such as at community colleges
Assist with planning and implementation of communication of TSSC tabling at campus events
Assist with planning and implementation of podcast programming for National Transfer Student Week in October
Events and Programming
Spring and/or Fall Welcome to State Related Tasks
Assist Professional Staff in developing Welcome to State program content, including activities for the incoming transfer student population.
Assist Professional Staff with TSSC and NSO assessment evaluation.
Attendance tracking.
Compiling reports from programs.
Assist with program set up and break down. Lifting up to 40lb at a time may be required.
Assist TSSC staff with New Student Orientation programs in January, May, and summer months
TIME COMMITMENT SUMMARY
General:
Schedules will be somewhat flexible based on candidates’ other time commitments. In general, anticipate 10 hours per week during the academic year. In general, anticipate 20 hours per week from May to July.
Student Coordinators may hold other jobs and take summer classes; however, candidates accepting a position are expected to make the SC position one of their priorities for fall, spring, and summer employment.
COMPENSATION
$15.00/hr. (MSU Human Resource classification of Student Media/Comm Assistant I) paid according to the university’s bi-weekly pay schedule.
Please note that MSU Student Employees cannot exceed 29 hours per week during the academic year and cannot exceed 40 hours per week during the summer for combined hours worked across multiple positions.
