We are seeking an EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR for our CAREER SERVICES NETWORK

Position Summary
Working Title: Executive Director, Career Service Network
Functional Title: Director, Career Services Network

The Career Services Network Director, reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Development and Leadership, is responsible for leading and coordinating the Michigan State University career development and career outcomes efforts. The Director maintains a flexible, yet intentional strategic alignment with Academic Affairs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Network is a unique unit that is distributive, cohesive, and collaborative, providing a seamless connection of career services professionals located in college-based and centralized career centers across campus. The Network serves students from first year through graduation and beyond, anchoring its work in assisting students to clarify, affirm and reaffirm the purpose to which they aspire. Additionally, the Network engages employer partners in achieving their purpose by creatively facilitating and supporting their connections with students.

The responsibilities of the Director include the management of 20 staff who are either partially or completely funded by the Career Services Network, and intentional collaboration with 10 affiliated professionals who support the Career Services Network functionally but are funded by colleges across the campus. The management of a budget consisting of general fund allocations and requiring the generation of revenue through activities and donor funds is a critical function of this position.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor’s degree work such as a program in Business Administration, Residential and Hospitality, Student Affairs/Higher Education and Counseling or related fields; more than eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in facilities management and services related to non-academic programs, construction and renovation, and supervision/administration of a large work force; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
The position requires knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor’s degree work such as a master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, business administration, or related disciplines; more than eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates must have demonstrated administrative experience in comprehensive career development programs, talent acquisition efforts, or related areas. Successful candidates will have demonstrated ability as a leader and manager with a collaborative, respectful administrative style, and positive approach to problem solving. Experience managing significant budgets is required.

This Director position requires strategic thinking and planning skills, strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleges, departments, faculty, administrators, and students at all levels in a complex, diverse, and multicultural learning environment.

A doctoral degree in higher education administration, student affairs, business administration, or related disciplines.

The ideal candidate will have a successful record of accomplishment as a leader who understands change and who has a sophisticated knowledge of the job market and employment trends, thorough understanding of career exploration and development, service learning and other co-curricular experiences, student employment issues, and the use of technology in the delivery of services to students and employers.
